If I Were An Utterly Failed, Lame Duck President…

…I would immediately and unapologetically impose a $1 per gallon gasoline tax.

To pay for the war and its aftermath, both here and abroad.  To reduce our dependence on foreign oil, which was one of that war’s chief causes, whether or not anyone is willing to admit it.  To spur the development of alternative energy, public transportation, and more efficient vehicles.  To reduce our obscene level of carbon emissions and thereby slow global warming.  To acknowledge that we live on a finite planet with finite natural resoues.  To inspire the kind of daily, collective sacrifice and cooperation that defines a great nation and secures its future.

And, of course, to try to salvage my legacy.
